Great baseball batting tips

Use these baseball batting tips for improving your batting average and hit more hard line drives.

Once you’ve assimilated and able of to apply good fundamentals to master your technique, the subsequent adjustments to make to your swing will be pretty small. In this section, you will find some baseball batting tips which will help you in making your task of hitting easier and more effective.

Those are sometimes minor points but, together with what you’ll receive from us on a regular basis if you subscribe to our free Wood Bats Monthly Newsletter, they will really have a major impact.

You can subscribe by entering your information in the form on the left.

FEET POSITIONING

Let’s start with the feet and we will go up slowly. Your feet should be pointing at least in front of you, perpendicular to the pitcher. You can even turn them towards the inside of your body. Your front foot should stay closed at the moment you make contact with the ball.

First, it will enable you to hit the outside pitch with more authority and second, it will give you more power on the inside pitch because your hips will be working a lot more. A very good example of that is looking at Albert Pujold.

KNEE WORK

Another baseball batting tip concerning the legs work is the knee to knee technique. Some hitters make a big step before hitting the ball. This is an extra movement that you don’t really need in your swing.

It demands a lot of balance and coordination and is really difficult to reproduce in every swing. Add the timing to land the front foot in order to start the swing at the good time and hitting becomes a lot tougher.

The knee to knee is more compact and produces less movement. You simply bring your front knee in direction of your back leg instead of going up with your foot. Your foot doesn’t even have to leave the ground. Less movement means less thinking and more focus on hitting the ball.

SQUARE SHOULDERS

Now let’s move up a little bit and talk about the shoulders. Often times, players wonder why they get jammed and start and they start opening up too early to be able to hit the inside pitch. By doing so, they become vulnerable on the outside corner.

The reason they are late is not coming from the hands quickness or the pitch recognition, they’re normally fine with those. It is coming from their shoulders. The problem occurs during the loading; the player rotates his shoulders towards the catcher while he loads. That makes the hands travel a longer distance to hit the ball and that is the reason why the player is late and gets jammed.

Your shoulders should always stay perpendicular to the pitcher. Just make sure the hands are doing the loading, not the shoulders.

LEVEL HANDS

Talking about the hands, here are some baseball batting tips concerning them:

During the loading try keeping the height of your hands constant. Your hands should only move horizontally and never vertically during the loading.

BAT ANGLE

Another thing that can really help in hitting the ball hard is the bat angle, always sticking with the “less movement” concept. Here is a tip concerning the bat angle:

At the moment of contact, the bat has to be approximately parallel to the ground. So, try starting your swing with the bat already having the good angle, which means parallel to the ground.
