Get yourself a solid
baseball batting technique

With a good baseball batting technique, you'll hit line drives consistently and become the best hitter on your team.In every sport, the fundamentals are the most important things to learn. It is even truer in baseball. Hitting is without a doubt one of the most difficult aspect among all sports. Luckily, a good technique makes it a lot easier. Baseball batting technique is not that complicated. The toughest part is mastering it and applying it in game situations.

HAVE A GOOD AND SOLID STANCE

The first concept you have to understand in order to be successful at the plate is that hitting is already difficult enough so you don’t make it any tougher. What is meant by this is that you should try to minimize the unnecessary movements in your swing. Now let’s be a little more concrete.

The baseball batting technique all starts with the feet. We often talk about the upper body and kind of overlook the importance of the legs and hips in the swing. The feet should be firm on ground, in an athletic and comfortable position, and pretty square with the pitcher.

As a reference point, the width of your feet should be around the same as when you field a groundball, a little bit wider than the shoulders.

UPPER BODY

Now that you are well grounded, we can talk about the hands. First of all, it is imperative to have a good grip on the bat. It doesn’t mean holding your bat tighter. The handle of the bat should be in your fingers, it should never touch your palms.

The middle phalanges of your left and right hands should all be aligned with each other. Your hands should be no lower than shoulder height and no higher than your head. Find a hand position where you are comfortable in that range between your shoulders and head.

Horizontally, the same concept of a comfort zone applies. The hands should be somewhere between your back shoulder and the middle of your chest. Once you found the stance in which you are comfortable with, then, you are ready to hit.

Just remember to always bring your hands straight to the ball. We will never say it enough; the fastest way between two points is the straight line. You only need to concentrate on getting a good momentum and a good loading while the pitcher winds up in order to hit the ball hard in play.

BE POSITIONED TO HIT INSIDE AND OUTSIDE PITCHES

Another issue about the baseball batting technique is the distance from the plate you should position yourself. There is no such thing as a perfect, universal spot to stand in the batter’s box. The thing to understand is that you have to be able to bring the barrel of the bat on the ball wherever it is over the plate.

You can’t be too close to the plate because you will be jammed on the inside pitch and you can’t be too far either because then, you will be vulnerable on the outside pitch. Applying and perfecting those fundamentals of the baseball batting technique is the easiest way to become a good hitter.

Staying with the basics is how you will keep getting better and performing the following drills will be of great help.
